The Lexus IS executive car was first introduced in 1999. It was initially sold under the name Altezza, which in Italian translates into “highness.” It is considered an entry level luxury vehicle which ranks just beneath the Lexus ES. While the 1st generation was powered by an inline 6 engine, the second generation housed a V6, and a V8 high performance engine was included in sedan variants. The third generation was introduced in 2013 and houses a V6 engine that is turbocharged and can generate 300 horsepower. Some IS models carry an IS designation, which means Intelligent Sport. The newest model, which is slated for release in 2021, will feature a bigger body frame with head and tail lamps that are restyled, an enhanced dashboard, spindle grille and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto availability. The driver assistance will also be updated, along with a suspension that has been modified to have a more durable structure.
